Surprise: Part 2

Despite my expectation, there wasn’t much of a hangover this morning after last night’s shenanigans.

To catch up on the first part of the surprise, go here (I’ll wait). My facts have been checked. The first party was actually two years ago. Minor details, geez.

This was my mom before she saw me – on the phone with my dad – who I believe was spilling the beans.

This is a picture of Mom and I just after she saw me. SURPRISE! hehe.

After

There were many shenanigans. One including my sweet aunt shouting out “Fucker” which then became the phrase of the night. This was then her cup of the night.

Cup

We had an awesome fire. It was amazing to be sitting outside next to a warm fire after this shitty long winter. There were shenanigans that involved riding in a wagon down the hill and dancing in the dark.

Then there may also have been several drinks and some crazy dancing under the disco ball.

We had so much fun. A much needed break and a big Happy Birthday surprise to my mom.

A Surprise

Starting last year, my cousin decided to have an annual party around her birthday. This year the party fell in my mom’s 60th birthday. Since I didn’t go last year, I was excited to head there this year and also excited to celebrate my moms birthday. I hadn’t talked much to her over the last couple weeks so I had no idea if she had other plans for the weekend or her birthday so I called my dad. He thought she was headed west to AmyGras so I decided to go there to surprise her.
I called my cousin and we had a few secret conversations about the specifics. That was the easy part.
The hard part was LYING to my mom. Last week she asked if I was going. Last week I was able to pull the I don’t know card. She didn’t know I was lying but I did. This week I just kept saying that I didn’t know if I’d be going. Finally this morning I had to lie AGAIN. I got the text:
R u coming?
I contemplated for a while and responded:
No. Bad cold. Thought it was just allergies but meds didn’t help. Been on the futon with a box of Kleenex all morning. :(
Then I got up and got ready to make the trek to Madison.
As I was driving out I was keeping track with my cousin. I left an hour after them did and ended up in Madison 20 minutes before they got there. I killed some time and when I got there, I was able to sneak into the house while she was outside. When she walked in, she was shocked. It was awesome. SUPER AWESOME! Pictures and more shenanigans coming tomorrow.
Happy Birthday to my Mama!!!!

Pillow or Blanket

After a long hard week, Friday finally got here. We spent one more night with Frank’s uncle and his wife. They head back home to New Mexico tomorrow. After getting Syd to bed around 9, we both properly fell asleep on the couch. When I saw that today’s BlogHer prompt was about which you would rather have: cozy blanket or super soft pillow. The answer is easy. I just want my blanket. It’s one that was made for me by my grandma when I was a baby. My mom used it in my crib when I was a baby and believe it or not, it’s big enough to cover me now. While it is a bit worn, it’s still in great condition and on a rainy Friday, I’ll take nothing else. This blanket is one of those where the minute I cover up with it becomes the minute I fall asleep. That’s definitely where I find my comfort.
